18 month stats

Emily is growing like a weed! She is now:

35.5 inches tall putting her in the 99.98%
24 lbs 6 oz in the 59.87%
and her head is 48cm- she has a really big head it is in the 89.96%! But I guess since she is so tall she needs to be proportionate and she would probably look really silly if she had a small head.

We got a lot of good information about potty training, eating and milk. So hopefully we will be able to incorporate some of these things into our life style. She did really well at the doctor's office, and even though they were behind she was content. She even got away with writing on herself while I was talking to the doctor! The little stinker. Plus we are all caught up on immunizations with 4 shots. Poor thing! I always hate it when they have to do shots Emily cries so much.

It is going to be so much fun to see how much she has grown in 6 months!

What a week!

This week has been so crazy. Lots of fun, but go go go! It started with a play date on Monday with Erika and Kaylee. Then a play date on Tuesday with Roxanne and Erika. Wednesday was a little bit slower with only having to run to the dentist to get our records because we are switching to a different dentist (they wouldn't just fax it over because they needed written consent from me). Then Thursday I had my dentist appointment which made for an early day to get Emily to Grandma's and then back down to the dentist. Friday was Emily's 18 month well visit, and over to Grammys to play. What a week! I think I just got a taste of how it is going to be when the kids are bigger and more appointments, school, and after school activities to be taken too. Next week is not looking any better either.

Say What!?!

Yesterday when Nathan and Emily were having their nightly bedtime routine together I could hear Emily talking up a storm. I really did not think she was going to go to bed. I finally hear her say "bye-bye" and then I heard Nathan chuckling. When he came out of her room he told me that she had said the funniest thing to him- "Bye-bye... poo poo." Where on earth she comes up with these things I'm not really sure. But it gave us a big laugh.

Nose for a Nose

Emily loves her little dog so much, and she loves to chew on his nose all the time. The other day I was looking at her teeth and one of her front teeth looks like it is chipped or really worn. I figured it was probably from her dog's nose. When she chews on it you can really hear the nose crunching on her teeth. The other night I decided to cut the nose off and sew a piece of brown minky fabric in its place. I think it looks like it belongs on it, but poor little Emily starts chewing on his nose, pulls it out, and says "Hey!"  while pointing at his nose. I think she is saying Ga-Ga where did your nose go?

Glitter Bulbs

The other day my sister-in-law Kirsten called me up to do a Christmas craft she found on Pinterest. We glittered Christmas light bulbs to put in a bowl or jar. It was so easy to do just brush on glue (Elmer's) and then sprinkle on glitter. They turned out so wonderfully that I have been trying to figure out what I can glitter next! I love the color combination and the simplicity of it. Let me know if anyone has any ideas of things to glitter.

Halloween

This year for Halloween we stayed at home, and had my parents over for dinner. I made Minestrone soup. I tried to make a few things that I saw on Pinterest, but unfortunately they did not turn out. I attempted to make jello worms that look just like earthworms, and Halloween cake pops. I guess I will have to try again next year.

I love to make Minestrone Soup it is so yummy! Here is my recipe if anyone would like to make it:

3 slices bacon
1 clove garlic, minced
1 medium onion, minced
2 stalks celery, diced
2 carrots, diced
1 large potato, diced
1/2 head cabbage, sliced
1 28oz can stewed tomatoes
1 tsp basil
1 tsp salt
1 15 oz can kidney beans
2 qts soup sock or 2 qts water plus 5 chicken bullion cubes
4 oz dry spaghetti, broken into 1 inch pieces (approx 1 cup)

In large pot fry bacon. Remove bacon and retain 2 tbs grease in pan. Add garlic, onion, cellery, carrots, potatoes, and cabbage. saute for 20 min, stirring often until veges are tender but crunchy (this step is vital for full flavor). Add tomatoes (puree), basil, salt, beans and stock. simmer 30 min or so. add spaghetti and cook til tender- abt 10-12 min.

This recipe takes a lot of time to make, but well worth it. Plus if you have leftovers it tastes even better the next day.

Ga-Ga

Emily has a stuffed dog that she picked out all by herself, and has loved ever since. This past weekend she named that little dog Ga-Ga. I'm not really sure where she got that from, but it is so cute because she will see it and say Ga-Ga or Hi Ga-Ga. She is such a funny little girl. I love seeing all of her new funny little quirks come out each day. She also has her Si-Si (Mommy's Slip) and Whey-Whey (The bear in the picture) She loves her stuffed animals so much!

Plastic Bag Holder

I found this tutorial a while back to make a plastic bag holder for our kitchen, but I just have not gotten around to it. I have this horrible habit of buying stuff to make different projects, and then taking my time getting around to it. This pattern and tutorial was super easy to follow and didn't take much time to make. It really helps that it is just straight lines that you sew together and lots of ironing. I really like the fabric combination and just how it turned out.

Arts and Crafts Baby

Whenever we can we try to get out the water colors and the finger paints. Emily loves everything arts and crafts. She likes to be right by me when I am sewing and tries to get the pins. She loves to color, and absolutely loves to finger paint. I have found tons of cute crafts to make with finger paints so we will have to give them a try sometime. She is such a smart girl. She knows that she has to dip her paintbrush in the water and then dip it in a color.  I am raising her to be a mini artist which is so much fun because I love everything there is in arts and crafts.

Mommy's Little Helper

 

The other day Emily discovered the broom, and now every time mommy needs to sweep the kitchen Emily wants to help. It is so funny how much she loves to sweep (it probably won't be like this in a few years). So I hurry and sweep as fast as I can, and then give her the broom and let her finish up. She also loves to help with emptying the dishwasher and doing the laundry. She is going to be such a good little helper.
